Greg Pizza – Champion of Older Athletes

Greg Pizza experienced the same changes to his body that everyone goes through as he entered his 50s. Not wanting to see a drop in his quality of life, he pushed himself to improve, including seeking medical help where necessary.

Now, Greg Pizza California is trying to help others like him not to give up their competitive sports by lobbying for changes to the organizing body’s rules that currently treat older amateur athletes the same as professional athletes.

The Athletic Life of Greg Pizza

Greg Pizza fell in love with sports early in life, joining his high school’s track and field team as a sprinter and becoming an all-state football player. During his time at Western Michigan University, he played football as a safety.

His love of athletics and the intricacies of human physiology led him to study Physical Education and his competitive nature motivated him to continue competing in Masters Competitions. In 2002, Greg Pizza California began running in competitive races in the Masters USA Track & Field sprint races. Occasionally, he also travels overseas to compete in a race.

He joined the Southern California Striders Track Club, where he trains and competes with team members year-round. His love of the sport pushed him to do more than compete. He decided to pass on his knowledge and experience to the next generation as a coach for younger athletes. An athlete for life, Greg still competes to this day.
